Yantai Hi-tech Development Zone lies in the center of  Yantai Administrative District, Shandong Province.In 1994 it combined with the newly-founded Laishan District.Under its Ieadership there are 2 towns,3 communities and 118 villages and its population is 180,000.In April 1998,Yantai Hi-tech Development Zone was sanctioned as one of the first Chinese Technical Industrial Parks which opened to APEC by the State Council and in December 1998,it set up the first Sino-Russia Hi-tech Cooperation Model Base under the approval of the State Ministry of Science and Technology.
